How long does microblading really last?
The honest answer is one to three years — but the range is wide for real reasons, and understanding them helps you keep your brows beautiful for longer.
Microblading places fine, hair-like strokes of pigment into the upper layers of the skin. Because that pigment sits closer to the surface than a traditional tattoo, your body gradually and gently breaks it down over time. That's by design — it's what keeps the result looking soft and natural rather than turning harsh as years pass.
The typical timeline
Most clients enjoy their results for one to three years before a refresh. After the initial appointment, a touch-up six to eight weeks later perfects the shape and fills any areas that healed lighter — this second session is part of the process, not an extra. From there, an annual or biennial colour boost keeps everything looking fresh.
What makes it fade faster
Sun exposure is the biggest factor — UV light breaks down pigment, so daily sunscreen genuinely extends your results. Oily skin tends to soften strokes more quickly, as does frequent exfoliation with acids or retinols near the brow area. Lifestyle matters too: swimmers and very active clients often see gentler fading sooner.
How to make it last
Follow your aftercare closely in the first two weeks, wear SPF once healed, and avoid scrubbing or exfoliating directly on the brows. When the colour begins to soften, book a refresh before it fades completely — topping up is quicker and gentler than rebuilding.
Every skin is different, which is exactly why the consultation matters. If you'd like to know how microblading would wear on your skin specifically, read more about the microblading service or book a consultation with Jade.
